Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis or trance is a focused state of attention where your subconscious mind becomes more receptive to beneficial suggestions aimed at changing unhelpful thought patterns and beliefs. You remain in control during this process, evaluating the suggestions and accepting only what you find useful.

What is the Subconscious Mind?

The subconscious mind is a part of your mind that operates below the level of your conscious awareness. It stores and manages your memories, habits, beliefs, emotions, and the autonomic nervous system. In hypnosis, the subconscious mind is accessed to bring about desired changes and healing by modifying deeply ingrained patterns of behavior or thought.

Amazingly, the subconscious mind is estimated to control approximately 95% of our lives. It operates in the background, managing not only our bodily functions such as heart rate, digestion, and breathing without conscious effort but also influencing our emotions, decisions, and habits. Because it stores all our past experiences, it plays a crucial role in how we automatically react to various situations and challenges, often beyond our conscious awareness. This extensive influence makes the subconscious a powerful aspect of our psyche, driving much of our daily activities and behaviors.

What is the Difference between Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a natural, relaxing state of focused attention and awareness where the conscious mind is set aside, allowing communication with the subconscious. We cycle in and out of this state several times a day, especially just before sleep and upon waking. It’s a place where we can hear our own thoughts and experience our internal representation of the world around us. Interestingly, we are in a state of hypnosis for the first 7 years of our lives and that is precisely when we go through intense programming.

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic modality in which Hypnosis is used with intention. Throughout the process, you maintain control and awareness of your surroundings. Guided relaxation techniques to calm your body and mind take you into a relaxed state of focused attention by asking you to imagine certain things. Powerful metaphors and stories that your subconscious mind can interpret and focus on at the deepest level allow for profound internal shifts. Positive suggestions are then made to help you reinforce this new awareness subconsciously It allows your mind to reflect on the ideas and solutions discussed during our session to understand how they can help you.

Our Hypnotherapy protocols use practical, structured, and well-researched strategies to help you make significant, positive changes quickly, focusing on the future instead of analyzing the past. We understand that it is your perspective and your words that hold the power. The reason this method is effective is because your conscious goals are able to be combined with the new awareness we discover from your subconscious mind while in hypnosis, and then they are communicated in a way your whole being inherently understands and desires.

Technically, hypnosis alters brainwaves from Beta (14-30 Hz), associated with intense mental activity, to Alpha (9-13 Hz), a bridge between the conscious and subconscious, or to Theta (4-8 Hz), where deeper subconscious access occurs. Simply put, in this state, your critical mind relaxes, increasing your receptivity to transformative suggestions that can change negative behaviors and beliefs, helping you become the best version of yourself.

My mission is to leverage hypnosis to create positive, lasting changes in your life by giving you access to reprogramming self-limiting beliefs, eliminating fears, and reframing past issues and relationships.

What is Being in Hypnosis Like?

Being in hypnosis is like being in a daydream or caught up in a really amazing story. You will be consciously aware that you are physically and mentally relaxed. But, you will also be conscious of all sounds in the environment, and your ability to recall details is typically sharp and precise.

To benefit from hypnosis, you will want to be comfortable and relaxed, whether in a reclining chair, sofa, or bed for online sessions. As you close your eyes, you will be guided into deeper relaxation, sometimes accompanied by gentle background music. Your mind may wander, which is perfectly fine; the goal is to relax. Suggestions are aimed at fostering positive change.

Many describe hypnosis as ‘guided daydreaming,’ during which you remain aware of everything being said while deeply relaxed.

Can Someone Be Hypnotized Against Their Will?

It is no more possible to hypnotize someone against their will than it is to force someone to fall asleep or make them meditate. No one has the power to override your internal consciousness and make you do anything you do not want to do. Your survival depends on it!

Will I Quack Like a Duck?

There is quite a difference between hypnosis used for therapeutic purposes and hypnosis used for entertainment. Stage hypnotist pay close attention to the type of people they choose to come up on stage. They are typically the enthusiastic, outgoing individuals who find joy in entertaining others, often at their own expense. They willingly choose to participate and follow the hypnotist’s suggestions. It is unlikely that they would select someone who is more reserved or hesitant to be on stage, as that individual might not engage with the suggestions and could negatively impact the performance. So no, unless you want to quack like a duck, there will be no quacking.

What If I Can't Be Hypnotized?

Do you have the ability to focus and concentrate on this question? Are you seeking to change more than you wish to remain in your current state? Do you want to succeed and move toward your goal? If you can access any desire and curiosity, you are likely open to hypnosis. It’s that simple.

For our purposes, a simple light trance state is very effective for most issues and can be achieved easily using guided relaxation techniques. You’ll find it easier to achieve a hypnotic state with continued practice by using my guided hypnotic relaxation meditation I will provide for personal use.

What is the Advantage of Online vs. In Person Hypnosis

For Hypnosis to be most effective, you must be able to get into a state of complete relaxation. Safety is the key word here because the safer your nervous system feels, the more open it is to allowing lasting change. Choosing online hypnosis puts you in control of these circumstances in the comfort of your own space or home. It also gives you the ability to work with the best therapist for your needs without the need to travel or be restricted to hypnotists in your local town or city. Being able to relax in your own private space with a reliable Wi-Fi connection is all you need to begin.

As an experienced hypnotist, I tailor each session to your specific needs, just as I would in person. Studies show clients achieve results comparable to in-person sessions, and it is increasingly the preferred choice for many due to its convenience and accessibility. In certain circumstances, I am available to conduct sessions from the comfort of my client’s home.

What Conditions Can Hypnosis Help With?

Hypnosis is profoundly effective in many areas, such as sports performance and business, helping clients maximize their performance to achieve their goals. It is also a fantastic modality for treating grief, sleep problems, chronic pain, motivation, confidence, and phobias. Hypnosis can help improve many conditions and symptoms that are often related to stress, anxiety, and depression.

Anything that is diagnosed will need written authorization from your medical provider acknowledging their agreement that hypnosis may be used to support this issue. We desire to provide holistic support in congruence with all your providers.

What Happens During The Intention Setting Session?

The initial consultation and assessment is a crucial session, marking the beginning of focused change. We will work together to identify your goals and determine the number of sessions that may be necessary. I will explain the principles of hypnotherapy and provide an overview of how the mind functions in relation to your concerns. If you are open to making changes, I will demonstrate how hypnotherapy can assist you in achieving your objectives. Additionally, you will receive a complimentary email with reminders on how to best prepare for our session.

Will I Be Able to Drive and Go About My Day After Hypnosis?

Yes, it is safe to drive and resume normal activities immediately after undergoing hypnosis and completing your hypnotherapy session. Entering a trance state is a natural experience that we all engage in multiple times throughout the day, making it completely normal and safe go about your normal routines.

I was referred to Cheryl Moore to explore Regressive Hypnotherapy. During our intention setting meeting Cheryl connected quickly with me and helped me understand the goals and process of this methodology.

She has added to my toolbox new methods to work through the difficult moments which arise.
